I joined the Virtutal Thrift shopping Day which
was an idea started by Cindy is Crafty
I originally saw it posted on Vintage Goodness blog - I thrift around the clock and I usually finds tons of stuff, I just happened to go to more Estate sales this past week than thrift shops, I am more into the small church thrift shops, but driving around to the estate sales I stopped at two thrift shops, On Saturday I went to the Goodwill in Bellmore, Long Island, New York(which I find overpriced) and I saw these Pink flamingos, for $4.99 I couldn't turn them up especially since they are new in the box!!

not the originals and who ever had them wrote that it was so hard to find them and happy birthday on the box, I guess the receiver of the gift didn't like them!! Now they have a good home and will go with my millions of other pink flamingos which have faded from the sun last summer, I am going to make some kind of flock in the back yard this year, last year they were peeking through the fence behind the garage but I will think of something new.....
Now most of the people participating in this have crafty blogs, Me? I tried embroidery and that's it, I am lacking the crafty gene and I am a thrift shopper at heart.
So I walked around my house looking to see what I got last week, I know I was at thrift shops.....then I found these, they were hard to photograph

White beaded purse shells - I got these at the thrift shop that I call the Ethel church, she was a worker there who passed away - it is a Methodist Church thrift shop in Bethpage, Long Island, New York, who are only open now every other Saturday - they need the lining and purse handle, I just have to figure out how to do that..... they were 25 cents each at the thrift shop!

here is a close up, they have a made in Japan tag in them

here is the inside, I mean they are naked, and me being a Purse collector(besides Pyrex and everything else) recognized these as naked purses!!!
If you have never been to this blog before its mostly about thrifting and then My nieces and nephew!!!!

The note on the flamingo box is too funny! And imagine finding them in NY! The friend must be from Florida.
Funny, too that you set up scenes in the backyard with them. The neighors must laugh!
Pour yourself another cup and admire your thrifty goodness!
Thanks for joining us!
I've never seen beaded purse blanks like that before. Interesting!

Wow! Love the flamingos and they are brand new! the purse pieces are cool too! xo, suzy
Ah! I would have beaten you over the head with those flamingoes! But I am glad they went to a good home. You need a sign that says "Plastic Flamingo Rescue" or something like that.
Do those purse things have a zipper? If not, I think I could figure out how to put a lining in them. I may even have some satin in the stash that would be suitable.
I forgot, the last time I was in Goodwill there was a guy there taking stuff out of people's hands and pricing it cheaper! I swear I was thinking maybe he was just a lunatic with a pricing gun who wandered in(like the Putamayo episode of Seinfeld). But he swore he worked there. I spoke to him for a minute and he said some of the people were pricing things too high and they were never selling.
Hi Monica. Greetings from another Long Island-based blog. Well, half LI and half Japan. My friends and I are avid collectors, visiting LI thrift stores, garage sales, church rummage sales, etc. Love the pink flamingos! My sister in Florida is decorating a room in 1950s Florida retro, getting harder to find. Enjoy!

I'm really intrigued by those 'naked' purses... I didn't know that they sold them in an unfinished form like that, people must have been pretty crafty to personalize their bags like that. :)
